Every weekend, the media chooses to ignore Chicago gun violence. Over the past week, they have been all about covering Alec Baldwin's gun violence. Mike Barnicle, who has been employed by the media since 1965, asked the Chicago mayor why she (who is black) thinks the media pays so much attention to Alec Baldwin (who is white) killing a man, while the media (who Mike Barnicle is employed by) pays no attention to weekly Chicago murders. This one belongs in the virtue signaling hall of fame.

BARNICLE: How does it strike you when you see such massive publicity given to this story in the media. So much publicity to Alec Baldwin when every day in the media that has signed my paycheck for fifty years, we ignore all the gun violence in Chicago?

MAYOR LIGHTFOOT: ...are you f*cking serious?

Set aside the usual (spot-on accurate) conservative assessment. The media ignores Chicago violence because it goes against the media narrative that gun violence is a MAGA-loving, Fox-News-binging, redneck-clinging-to-Bible-and-rifles thing. The point is obvious: Barnicle was signaling all his remaining virtue.

This comes after the Gabrielle Petito case and all the media hand ringing about how the media only covers missing white girls. The media lectured people who don't make editorial decisions for why the media doesn't cover missing black girls. The media then went back to not covering any stories about missing black girls.

Barnicle wanted Mayor Lightfoot to rant about the racism of it all and make him feel guilty for his whiteness. Asking why MSNBC covers white Alec Baldwin more than they do a much less white Chicago isn't a question for the Mayor of Chicago. It's a question for Barnicle's employers at MSNBC.
