Mostly True: Politifact's latest 'fact' check on Ron DeSantis exposes them as partisan bullplop
Consider this Exhibit Q on how self-proclaimed "independent" "fact" checkers don't check facts as much as circle the wagons on behalf of Democrats and the media (but I repeat myself). At issue is the desperate attempt to use Hurricane Ian as an excuse to attack Ron DeSantis, which Politifact is happy to help with. Or, try to help.
Long story short, leftists and the media (again, I repeat myself) are desperate to turn Hurricane Ian into a "Hurricane Katrina" for DeSantis, where they blame him for the hurricane's destruction. What they are holding on to is Lee County and that the county didn't issue a mandatory evacuation order early enough. DeSantis was quick to shut this down:
[Lee County was] following the weather track and they had to make decisions based on that. But you know, 72 hours, they weren’t even in the cone, 48 hours they were on the periphery, so you gotta make the decisions as best you can.
Politifact called that mostly false.
Florida @GovRonDeSantis said Lee County, Florida, wasn't "even in the cone" of Hurricane Ian 72 hours before landfall.
But Lee County's Cayo Costa appeared inside each forecast cone on Sept. 25. Ian made landfall on that island.

Except if you read the fact check, it was mostly true. "Most of Lee County was not within the forecasted path three days before landfall." But one of the outlying islands were. So Politi"fact" rated DeSantis's mostly true claim as mostly false.
This is such a great example of how politifact fact-checks try to provide cover for Dem attacks.
DeSantis: "Lee County wasn't in the cone.."
Politifact: Only 98% of it wasn't in the cone.
So seems like mostly true??
Politifact: Nope. Mostly false https://t.co/PzSb0lBn52

Though Team DeSantis would argue that 98% isn't even accurate.
99.7% of Lee County wasn’t in the cone.
I did the math. 🧐

The rub is Politi"fact" knows their low information left-wing base who is inclined to believe anything bad they hear about people they don't like won't ackshually ready the fact check. They'll read the headline and claim without evidence that an "independent" "fact" checker called DeSantis a liar. Meanwhile, people with reading comprehension skills know that's not the case, and see what the "fact" checking firm is attempting to do.
