Friday's "Change My Mind" debate with Prof. Zimmerman may be in jeopardy...

The University of Pennsylvania (@Penn) Does Not Support Free Speech.
Change My Mind was always meant to challenge institutions that fail the people they’re supposed to teach.

This Friday at 7 PM ET, I am scheduled to debate Professor Jonathan Zimmerman at the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia, PA. We are set to discuss the battle over free speech and who is really trying to kill it.
And the whole thing is set to be livestreamed.
Well, that is, unless the kind people at the Annenberg Center have their way.
Quick timeline:
March 9-13: My team met with the Annenberg Center Director of Events (who has been very helpful) via Zoom to discuss plans to livestream the debate. She emailed us a cost estimate, and we negotiated over aspects such as the cost and security. When we received the first draft of the facility licensing agreement, it contained NO restrictions on livestreaming.
March 23: A hit piece against us was published in the Daily Pennsylvanian.
Multiple PLA staff members raised concerns about working the event in interviews with the DP and were granted anonymity due to fear of retribution. One staffer told the DP that they worry that the debate could perpetuate “hate, bigotry, and ignorance into the world and into University of Pennsylvania students.
Later that day, we got a message from the venue.
The University is aware that this will be recorded. They typically ask that events not be livestream but played at a later time/date, if possible. Please let me know if this is feasible.
April 3: The Director of Events sends us a "modified" agreement.
Thank you so much for your patience while the University reviewed the modified language in our facility use agreement. Kindly see their updated version attached, with adjustments to redlined terms. Based on their revised language, we will not be able to permit the sale of merchandise or livestreaming this event.
Security has also been an issue. Our security team did a full walkthrough with the University security teams on April 1. However, the Venue would NOT allow us to complete many of our standard security protocols. We have to use THEIR security and have still not received a cost estimate.
Change My Mind was always meant to challenge institutions that fail the people they’re supposed to teach.
The topic between myself and Prof. Zimmerman set for this week’s CMM is free speech, where it stands, and how to kill it. Well, where the Left thrives, free speech dies.
UPenn is now changing their approach. They’ve told us they will revoke our ability to livestream the event. Why? Your guess is as good as mine.
Maybe these people are operating in good faith. And maybe there's a miscommunication going on. We're hoping that. Because we are still going to the campus to stream live. There is no world in which we go there and don't stream this live. Period. We will be there Friday. We will be LIVESTREAMING, as always planned.
Tickets, though not many, are still available.
I hope we've been clear.
