FLASHBACK: 'Kids in the Hall' Eerily Predicted Modern PC Outrage...
The politically correct "social justice warriors" have commandeered colleges (see Stanford Teaches Female Freshmen to ‘Drink Responsibly’. Feminists Protest as ‘SEXISM!’ and Oberlin College Students Protest: ‘The Cafeteria food is racist!’). Sometimes the stories we write seem too ridiculous to be real. Turns out, once upon a time, TV show writers thought the same. Because who would have guessed 22 years ago that the Kids in the Hall would have accurately predicted this?
"Language is a Virus."
Indignant faux outrage. Making up stuff then complaining about whatever it is they made up. Yelling "hate crime" for no reason. "If you don't walk out, you're a racist." Was there anything the Kids in the Hall made fun of here that we haven't written about seriously at LwC this year? Because if we missed something, please point it out. There was even a "cross-dresser" in this skit. As transgenders were once known, some 20 years ago. Heck, even three years ago. Say that now, you're a transphobe. Also a bigot. How dare you.
Yet here we are. Usually a passage of time marks some kind of evolutionary progress for our species. What this video shows is regression. Our current reality was once fodder for parody. It used to be creative writers would predict innovation. Submarines, for example. Space travel. Alas, our current reality mirrors decades old satire on good days. Dystopian classics on others.
But hey, at least we can still laugh at it, right? Lest we cry.
And speaking of faux outrage...
