Look, I don’t like flying. I can’t stand it. I would much rather drive anywhere in the continental United States than be forced to sit in a cramped seat for any amount of time to get to where I’m traveling. So, when someone makes a critique of anything having to do with air travel, I’ll be the first to toss in my own two cents.

However, when Ilhan Omar attempts to disparage some Christians who chose a plane as the perfect setting for an impromptu worship service, she isn’t doing it to make a point about how much flying sucks.

“Hey, get a load of this weirdo with the guitar. Isn’t flying miserable enough? You have to amplify the discomfort with derivative pop-songy hymns…”

No. She just hates Christians being able to do anything of the sort in public.

Let me say that once more: if I was flying, and some guy decided he was going to break out his guitar and burst into song, I wouldn’t care how many people joined in, I would still take the guitar from him and stomp it to pieces. Ilhan Omar, on the other hand, would have this exact same reaction if I were to simply pull out my rosary in her presence.

“How dare you?! What if I pulled out a Quran?!”

Nothing. I wouldn’t care. None of us would. In fact, I have a copy of it on my bookshelf. Would you like to borrow my copy?

Because when it comes down to it, Omar isn’t attempting to make a point about subtle Islamophobic sentiment (although, I don’t think it would be unheard of for eyebrows to go up if a group of people jumped up and started screaming “Allahu Akbar”). She’s just being the same bigoted, hateful twat she’s always been. If she had it her way, she’d have Judeo-Christian practice outlawed in a moment.

So, as long as I’m not on the flight, everyone feel free to sing whatever you like.
