Second graders were shown a cartoon where a scared girl had a man standing next to her with an erect penis.

Meet Alfred Jr. and Shadow. Two cartoon owls that are generally reserved for therapy sessions.

The cartoon suddenly cuts to an image of the silhouetted man with an erect penis standing over a sad-looking child.

The voice-over explains that some "children have experienced an adult touching or putting their penis in the child's private parts or mouth," saying they're "terrified that this will happen again."

I used to be in second grade and remember an episode of Different Strokes (Google it, kids). The guy who owned the bike shop tried to touch Arnold and Dudley in an inappropriate way. The episode was used to convey the same message. It's an important message for kids to hear. Yet they managed to convey the message WITHOUT SHOWING ANYONE'S PENIS, CARTOON OR OTHERWISE.

Greenwich Schools Superintendent Dr. Toni Jones sent an email to parents stating, "The content at this point in the video was not appropriate for our second-grade classrooms." Gee, do ya think? The email was sent to "remote school 2nd-grade families in Ms. Goodwin's and Ms. Hanzlik's classrooms about the video." The article didn't mention that the two alleged teachers were fired as yet, nor did it give any further details. If I were to guess, both have pink crocheted pussy hats in a drawer somewhere. Just a hunch.

What isn't clear is whether the teachers were aware of this scene before they showed the children or weren't. In the olden days, teachers used to review materials before showing them to children. Mayhaps Ms. Goodwin and Ms. Hanzlik are on the phone with each parent admitting how horribly they f*cked up. Or they did review the video and felt it was their duty to expose children to this.

You're free to decide how much of a benefit of the doubt you want to give them. But it's a public school in a liberal city in 2021. It's shocking this is ALL they showed the kids.
