Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Claims Criticisms of Her Are an Unfair Double Standard

Corey Stallings
December 11, 2018

Ocasio-Cortez strikes again! Alexandria took to the Twitters to complain about how there's supposedly a double standard at play among her detractors. After all, Paul Ryan was in Congress at the age of 28. Therefore, we're hypocrites if we criticize her.

For reals:

Rep.-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Monday compared herself to Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.), saying that the outgoing congressman was considered a "genius" when he was elected at 28 while she's been viewed as a "fraud."

"Double standards are Paul Ryan being elected at 28 and immediately being given the benefit of his ill-considered policies considered genius; and me winning a primary at 28 to immediately be treated with suspicion & scrutinized, down to my clothing, of being a fraud," Ocasio-Cortez tweeted, linking to an article from Vox editor-at-large Ezra Klein entitled "Paul Ryan's long con."

Ocasio-Cortez is considered to be a rising progressive star in the Democratic Party, and, at 28, became the youngest woman elected to Congress last month.

Yeah, our criticisms of Congresswoman Okeechobee-Corvette are without merit.

Once again, Alejandra Oreo-Cordless swings and misses. Her consecutive flubs have got to be bordering on some kind of a record. We aren't critical of Alexandria because of her age. We mock Cortez because of her incomparable gaffe-tastic ways.

The last time I checked, the most cringeworthy thing Paulie Ryan ever did was that ill-advised workout photo shoot in 2012. As bad as that was, it pales in comparison to Alex's daily mental diarrhea. What Ryan would call a career-ending screw-up, she calls Monday.

If there's any double standard at play here, it's on the left. If a Republican politician was showing such a lack of knowledge about the Constitution, basic economics, or the "chambers" of government, the left would have a field day. Cortez would be a nightly fixture of mockery on late night comedy shows. Stephen Colbert's favorite crazy-eyed punching bag.

Yet, despite Cortez's unparalleled mental midgetry, the left continues holding her up as an intellectual heavyweight. There's your double standard.
