The Olympics made a major decision yesterday, declaring that men must compete against men and women against women. It sounds like the Olympics are making a major decision that rain is wet, but critics claim the decision is "transphobic" and that allowing people born as men (aka who are men) to destroy women in sports competitions is equity and tolerance. Legendary sports announcer Bob Costas somewhat surprisingly disagrees and supports the Olympic decision. Even more surprising? He was allowed to say so out loud on CNN.

Note: Yes, I know "trans" women aren't being banned from anything. CNN's cryon writer must be super popular on BlueSky.

There are people who use this issue cynically for political purposes and they're demonizing people who happen to be trans who should be treated with respect and dignity and understanding.

Those of us who support girls' sports aren't being cynical. There are just two sides to the debate. One side believes in science and feels that because boys are born with certain biological advantages in strength and athletics, it is unfair for them to compete against girls, effectively robbing those girls of opportunities like scholarships and being able to discover themselves as they learn, grow, and develop.

The other side thinks you're a transphobe, as Costas is about to find out as he's getting bullied into apologizing for this next part:

However, common sense is not transphobic. There's a reason why the high school champions don't compete with the college champions. There is a reason why no trans man who was once a woman and has become a man has ever competed successfully with men in the Olympics.

Here's the thing. Everything Bob Costas says is factual. I know it. You know it. He knows it. The content creators at CNN know it. But I do wonder if a memo went out granting people permission to be factual on CNN about the topic.

I read somewhere this week on the X-Twitters (of course, I can't find it now) about how Democrats recognize they are on the wrong end of an 80-20 issue and were "wrestling" with how to "talk" about "trans" issues. One of the things they realized was that defending boys competing against and destroying girls in sports was a losing argument. A day or two later, Democrat Congressman Sarah McBride admitted that people have a rational concern. A few years ago, any girl or parent who had that same rational concern was told to go f*ck themselves.

It makes you wonder whether Costas would still say that common sense isn't transphobic if the Olympics had made this decision in 2022 instead of 2026. It was common sense then, too. The left just wasn't allowed to say so.
