“I would have taken on a man in a heartbeat.”
AZ State Sen. Catherine Miranda criticized Utah State volleyball captain @kaylieray13 for forfeiting against San Jose State’s team with a male player, suggesting she lacked competitive spirit.

Fighting for the right for female sports to stay female is not a matter of how competitive the players are, but a crucial need to uphold the integrity of women’s sports. This, combined with the safety component, proves just why men should be kept out of women’s sports.
Arizona state Senator Catherine Miranda believes otherwise and implied that girls who want to keep men out of the women’s division lack competition, adding that if it were up to her, she would be more than eager to compete against a man.
According to Fox News:
Arizona state senator Catherine Miranda, a Democrat, has come under scrutiny on social media after an exchange with former NCAA volleyball player and "save women’s sports" activist Kaylie Ray.
Ray showed up to the Arizona Senate Education committee hearing on Wednesday to lobby for a bill that would protect women's sports from biological males. She spoke from the perspective of a former Utah State captain who led a team forfeit against San Jose State in 2024, in protest of a trans athlete on San Jose State University (SJSU).
"I have my sports hat on now. It's all about a sports mentality, growing up in sports, being a tomboy. I mean, you look pretty healthy. I've played against girls that look like you. You look very much in shape and strong," Miranda said.
What does being a “tomboy” have to do with anything? Why does the left always resort to random character traits while defending such reprehensible policies?
The state senator then argued against Ray's position and the bill by claiming she had competed against men herself in sports, and would compete against men in sports and ended her lecture with the question, "How competitive do you think you really are?"
The funny thing is that the senator never even called these "athletes" trans or any gender confused term. She only used the term “men.” This means she knows we are not debating if trans women are women; she has acknowledged that trans women are, in fact, men. That is what makes this all the more worse. She does not even have a leftist talking point to justify her ignorance. She is very much aware that she is advocating for destroying women's sports, and she mocks the athletes trying to uphold fair play.
"It's a sports mentality when you're growing up and how much competition that you'll take on. So it's not just a silver bullet for one community of sports players, it's the individual person on how competitive you wanna be. So you grew up one way. I grew up a different way. I would have taken on a man in a heartbeat. I've played in, I was the only girl sometimes in sports. But to have a man on my team, I would have welcomed it," Miranda said.
The bill already takes into account three separate divisions: Males, females, and coed. If trans women wish to compete not against their biological sex, there is a time and place for that. But when you have men flood women's sports, it ceases to exist. That is the point, and she does women athletes a disservice everywhere by making up some story about how she loves competition.
"But this is just my opinion … and that's why this bill is bad, because you're just putting a whole community of women's sports in one category. When women like me, we have a different opinion. So, how competitive do you think you really are?"
While this would have been insulting, she is far too naive to even give her credit for that. The fact that she tried to mock the athletes fighting on the right side of history, by pretending loads of women are dying to compete against men, is deeply disingenuous. Fortunately, though, her ignorance was on full display.
The men’s mile world record is 3:43.13, and the women's world record is 4:07.64. This is because men have a physical advantage. This is not rocket science, it is not complicated, and it should not be controversial. Men and women are not on the same playing field when it comes to sports. Miranda can lie all she wants by pretending she would have loved to have her sports division flooded with men, but she fools no one. The fact that she tried to chalk this up to competitive spirit shows how little justification the left has for these policies.
Trans women are men. And the worst part is that Miranda KNOWS that.
