Watch: No, Zohran Mamdani did NOT balance the budget. Here's what really happened...

Mamdani has made some bold claims about New York City’s fiscal success. The problem with this is that he’s wrong. Today’s show breaks it down.
“It is amazing how these people lie straight to your face,” Crowder said.
According to the New York Post:
He announced that Gov. Kathy Hochul and state lawmakers would dollop a few extra billion dollars on Gotham over the next few years to patch up the city’s suddenly balanced budget.
But the mayor’s revisionism, coupled with the slipshod manner in which the budget is being balanced, gives reason to worry that he will struggle to handle less avoidable fiscal challenges ahead.
The mayor insists he “uncovered” a massive budget deficit upon taking office, a strange term to describe something that had been warned about for the better part of a year, including by state Comptroller Tom DiNapoli.
According to Mamdani, because of his administration's work as the hard-working Socialists they are, the deficit is now $0, and the city “is on firm financial ground.”
“Here is the truth: Kathy Hochul balanced the budget. She gave him like $8 billion -- $4 billion each year for two years," Crowder said.
Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a whopping $124.7 billion executive budget for New York City on Tuesday – built on the back of $4 billion in funny money from Gov. Kathy Hochul.
The governor’s bailout – announced hours before the city budget’s reveal – was quickly criticized as a fiction used to help out her reluctant ally Mamdani as she faces re-election and pressure to appease the lefty mayor’s comrades.
In other words, when he claims they balanced the budget, what he really means is someone gave them the money, and he wrote an “IOU” to the state.
“Let’s establish the virtues of Socialism in New York City,” Crowder said. “Some people will buy it.”
