Elite Privilege! Jussie Smollett Released From Jail After Less Than a Week for Lame Reason

I need to get me some of whatever privilege Jussie Smollett has because my default white privilege just isn’t cutting it. I don’t imagine I’d have some judge giving me a literal get-out-of-jail-free card just because I’m white, but Smollett managed to get one after crying a little bit and saying jail was scary.

Sitting in a jail cell for less than a week was a bit too much for Smollett. Apparently, as the New York Post reports, the hoaxer spent only six days in jail, eating nothing and drinking only ice water, before a judge released him. I’ve heard of early release, but this seems a little excessive.

His lawyers filed for an appeal, arguing Smollett was charged twice for the crime, sighting the original indictment that was dropped. After an appellate judge granted a motion to postpone the sentence.

His lawyers argue the case against Smollett was “unconstitutional” and motivated by racism.

“Multiple false reports are made against black men all over the country. Nobody cares.”

The judge decided that “because Smollett had been convicted of “non-violent” offenses, the court would allow him to be released from a Chicago jail on a $150,000 individual bond during the appeal, according to the court order.”

The charges may not have been violent in their nature, but I mean, Smollett did beat himself up... Or rather, he paid to get himself beat up. And even if one argues that the crime wasn’t violent, the public reaction to his ridiculous hoax was quite violent. Every piece of property damage and every person injured by others in reaction to the case is on Smollett, and the judge would have done well to remember that.

But our justice system doesn’t seem all too concerned with actual justice these days, so Jussie Smollett will spend what time he should be in a cell walking free, doing whatever he likes, look forward to the day when another judge decides to go along with the arguments of his lawyers and drops the charges altogether.

Privilege in American society is very real, everyone. It just doesn’t come from one’s skin color or gender.
