With so much Somali fraud being reported in Minneapolis, it came as no surprise that the Somali-born Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar would suddenly see her net worth explode. Or, so we thought. Turns out it was just an "accounting error." That she only found eight months after reports that her net worth had exploded. Why yes, I do have a look on my face like that's unbelievable. Why do you ask?

Quick timeline.

Pre-March 2020 - Ilhan Omar and Tim Mynett, her political consultant, were married to different people.

March 2020 - Omar and Mynett get married.

February 2024 - Ilhan Omar cried poverty and wanted taxpayers to pay off her student loans.

September 2025 - The Free Beacon dropped this bombshell tge Omar0Mynett's accumulated a net worth at the end of 2024 ranging from at least $6 million to $30 million, derived almost entirely from the value of Mynett’s ownership stake in his two companies.

At the end of 2023, Mynett’s combined stake in both companies was worth no more than $51,000, the firms had less than $700 across all their bank accounts, and Mynett and his business partner, former DNC adviser Will Hailer, were saddled with lawsuits from investors claiming they defrauded them out of millions of dollars.

But by the end of 2024, Mynett’s combined stake in the two firms ballooned to anywhere between $6 and $30 million, and he and Hailer settled the lawsuits with cash settlements, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

December 2025 - After Nick Shirley exposed hundreds of millions of dollars of taxpayer fraud committed by Somali-Minnesotans, the Somali Minnesota Congresswoman stuttered and stammered on CNN trying to explain it. Of course, she was never asked about her own finances that were in the news because...it was CNN.

April 2026 - Oopsiedoodle!

An accountant allegedly listed several of Mynett's business interests as full assets without factoring in liabilities inflating the couple's apparent net worth. Omar's team says she didn't catch the error because she’s not directly involved in those businesses and relied on the filing being done correctly.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the disclosure has since been amended, and Omar now reports a net worth between roughly $18K and $95K ... a huge drop from the original filing.

People are free to draw their own conclusions and believe whatever they want to believe. An accounting error sounds like a believable excuse... one that could have been made last September, when the Free Beacon broke the story. Reporters claim you have $30 million dollars. You say you don't have $30 million dollars. You ask the accountant why reporters think you have $30 million dollars. Your account double-checked the math and discovered that they moved the decimal point too far. Such a discovery can be corrected in at most 48 hours.

It's eight months later. You'll have to excuse me for thinking this sounds like b-b-bullshit.
