I'm sure many of you slammed your laptop shut for the weekend saying to yourself, "Self, this Sydney Sweeney brouhaha (if I may invoke a little French) can't get any more ridiculous." WRONG! Because now the streets are saying she is a registered Republican, registered as one in 2024 in Florida, and both the President and Vice President of these United States of the Americas have commented on these developments.

Are there more important stories happening? Sure, I guess. Should we be covering one of those instead? Hey, these clicks don't bait themselves.

To recap, smokeshow of an actress, Sydney Sweeney, did an ad for American Eagle jeans where she a) looked hot, and b) made the same jeans vs genes pun that every denim company has made in the history of denim. The right celebrated it because Sweeney is fiiiiiine, and because we know how triggered the left gets whenever too many conservatives like the same thing. The left said the ad was full of nazi-dog whistles and accused American Eagle of pushing eugenics. And by "the left," I mean Washington Post, NBC News, and 98% of the mainstream media.

Since then, a meme has circulated claiming that Sydney Sweeney is a registered Republican, having registered in Florida in 2024. Buzzfeed investigated and, according to their sources, it's accurate.

Could she have registered just to vote in the primary? Mayhaps. It's an unwritten rule that if a famous celebrity doesn't openly talk about being a leftist and supporting leftist politicians, they at the very least have conservative-leaning tendencies. In the case of Ms. Sweeney, the clues have been there all along:

And, because we live in silly times, we now have comments from the Leader of the Free World and the heir apparent. President Trump welcomed the news that Sweeney is on the team.

JD Vance also finds himself amused, but more amused that a political party that is trying to figure out why the American people hate them so much thinks accusing Sweeney of being Nazi-adjacent will help change that.

If you think that, okay, NOW this ordeal has gotten as ridiculous as it can possibly get, Sweeney will be out promoting a new movie called Americana. How many journalismers do you think will be asking her about the movie? Let's hope she is smarter in her answers than most comic book movie actors appear to be.
