Ronald Reagan on American Courage - Happy 4th of July!
Today we celebrate. Freedom, fireworks, meat... 'Merica. It's the 4th of July!
It's on this day that we remember our heritage, our founders, those brave men and women of the very first Tea Party who stood and said "No!" to unrepresented taxation, "No!" to state religion, and "Yes!" to independence. Theirs is a courage that has grown into an American legacy of peace through strength and laid the foundation for both the greatest fighting force and peace-keeping entity the world has ever seen.
In honor of this most American of holidays, we give you the ever-inspirational President Reagan. Happy 4th of July, everyone!
"This is the specter our well-meaning liberal friends refuse to face. Their policy of accommodation is appeasement...
If nothing in life is worth dying for, when did this begin? Should Moses have told the children of Israel to live in slavery under the Pharaohs? Should Christ have refused the cross? Should the Patriots at Concord have thrown down their guns and refused to fire the first shot heard round the world?
You and I have the courage to say there is a price we will not pay. There is a point beyond which they must not advance... you and I have a rendezvous with destiny. We'll preserve for our children this, the last best hope on earth."
Also, here's a stern eagle. 'Merica.
