Mayor Zohran Mamdani that the first city-owned grocery store – which carries a whopping $30 million expected price tag – won’t open until 2029. https://t.co/JbqTCnyE1X pic.twitter.com/EFwYLtKCJS

The Zohran took a break from bragging about raising taxes on a group of New Yorkers he has chosen to isolate to announce the first of his promised government-run grocery stores. One of his campaign promises was that the government would open its own grocery stores because, under the alleged warm glow of collectivism, it would make groceries cheaper.
Let's set aside the fact that his promise has been amended to say that only a certain "basket of goods" would be cheaper. The Zohran has announced his first one in Harlem. It will cost $30 million dollars and take over three years to open.
Confused by those numbers? How do you think the immigrants who currently run bodegas throughout the city feel?
If Mamdani had grown up with immigrant parents who ran a convenience store -- and not privileged with an academic father and filmmaker mother -- he'd know how messed-up it is to bring state-owned grocery stores to New York. (He'd also know how insane a $30 million price tag is.)

I consulted with the Googles, and here's how the cost of Mamdani Mart measures up. A standard store could take up to six months to build, which is a lot less than THREE YEARS. Not to mention, a LOT less than thirty million dollars.

What I don't understand is that this is the first one he decided to announce. NOT the first one that is going to open. Others will open before The Zohran's Food Emporium does, and will cost less money to build. Though still, if I were to guess, a lot more than it would cost to open a giant supermarket in a normal area. AKA, anywhere outside of New York City.
I'd love to see an itemized proposal for how and why Kwik-E-Mamdani is going to cost $30 million. Line item, point by point. We never will, because I know you know it's nothing but a giant boondoggle to take hardworking taxpayers' money to pay off his supporters. But the way it's worded makes it sound like it wouldn't be entertaining.
