\New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has learned the hard way that nothing in life is free. So, while he promised the left everything and more, it turns out that broken promises mean nothing unless you have the funds to make them happen. This is why, if he does not get his way to live out his progressive utopia, the ones who will pay the burden are property owners.
According to the New York Post:
Mayor Zohran Mamdani unveiled a record $127 billion budget Tuesday — with an ultimatum to Albany to tax the rich or he’ll slap the Big Apple with a massive property tax hike.
The democratic socialist framed his proposal — which would also include pulling from the city’s $10 billion rainy day fund — as a “last resort” to balance the budget if Gov. Kathy Hochul doesn’t agree to increase taxes on millionaires.
“I do not want to raise property taxes,” Mamdani said of his preliminary budget plan, which would hike property taxes 9.5% to raise an additional $3.7 billion in the next fiscal year.
No matter who ends up getting taxed, it affects way more people than the typical commie brain could comprehend. Rents can still increase if landlords pass along the tax to renters, despite his claim that the working class will not be affected. A nine percent tax is considered a significant increase, and when renters are already struggling to make ends meet, this could break the bank. So, while he claimed he was all in it for the little guy, they may end up bearing the cost to help balance the budget, slapping many of his voters right in the face.
“When faced with this crisis, the question is who should pay these taxes? I believe that it should be the wealthiest New Yorkers, the most profitable corporations. I believe that they can afford to pay a little bit more,” Mamdani said.
It turns out, he does not have the power to do that. So, he can stop wasting time by explaining that he only wishes to tax the rich, when that was never an option in the first place. Either he knew that before he was elected, or he didn't, both are reprehensible.
According to the Post, “The city spent a massive $3.75 billion on migrants in the fiscal year 2024 budget at the crisis’s height, and $8.11 billion between the 2023 and 2025 fiscal years.” While Mamdani was not mayor during this time, if the city never spent so much on foreign nationals, Americans might not have had to pay the burden. You do the math, because Mamdani can’t.
It’s funny how when the left pretends they are all in it to eat the rich, they almost always end up making those they claim to fight for worse off. Why do you think that is?
