NEW: Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge gives a super stern message, says criminals need to “learn how to behave” after two people were shot in downtown.
“My message to everybody, learn how to behave in our city … Do not come downtown if you don't know how to behave.”

Cincinnati has a crime problem. In fact, it ranks in the top 20 of the 100 most populous U.S. cities in terms of crime rate, including both violent and property crime. And according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, “violent crime has increased in the downtown area, including a 50% rise in robberies.” So, you can bet that a stern finger-pointing and simply telling criminals to “not” commit crimes won’t accomplish much. However, the Chief of Police seems to disagree.
Cincinnati Police Chief Teresa Theetge has a message for anyone even thinking about causing trouble: “Everybody needs to learn how to behave,” and “you should not come downtown if you don’t know how to behave.”
I’m no legal expert, but I highly doubt this message will do much to combat crime — though that’s for you to decide.
This “message” comes after two teenagers were shot on Oct. 13.
Just think about it. She’s speaking to the camera as if she’s addressing a toddler. And when a firm finger-pointing doesn’t even work on toddler tantrums — and when even a two-year-old knows not to shoot someone — and when the behavior in these shootings is far worse than a two-year-old throwing a tantrum… well, let’s just say again, this is not going to do much of anything.
There has been a surge in youth shootings in Hamilton County, and officials don’t seem to be doing all they can to hold offenders accountable. In 2025, only 24 of 194 juveniles charged with violent crimes, including shootings, were transferred to adult court, according to WXIX. So, is it any surprise that some teenagers are shooting each other?
This is not rocket science. When you refuse to hold people accountable, more bad things happen. And unfortunately for crime victims, no amount of stern finger-pointings will do anything to stop it. The sooner people like Theetge realize that, the safer everyone will be. Until then, my unprofessional suggestion is to remain vigilant in the downtown area.
