Everyone and their mother has chimed in on Kevin Hart (see There’s a New Poll on Kevin Hart. Leftists Won’t Like the Results. and Nick Cannon Exposes Hollywood’s Hypocrisy on Kevin Hart). But I’d argue few have the authority to speak on comedy more than Jerry Seinfeld. Having the most popular sitcom of all time, a show based on nothing. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Kevin is in a position, because he is a brilliant comedian, to kind of decide what he wants to do. He doesn’t have to step down. But he can.
And when you look at the situation — well, who got screwed in that deal?
I think Kevin is going to be fine, but find another Kevin Hart: That’s not so easy.
The Academy has learned just how not easy finding a new Kevin Hart is. Looking at the situation, Kevin is getting a lot of mileage via favorable publicity out of this. The Acadamy is looking to get a Razzie. Well, The Academy already is a giant Razzie, but they’re just doubling down.
Seinfeld’s right. I really don’t think Kevin Hart cares about hosting or not hosting the Oscars. It could have been fun. But instead, he’ll just sell out Madison Square Garden. Again. Or do another movie with The Rock. Laughing all the way to the bank.
The only thing the Academy has done is give people another reason to think next year’s show is going to suck. Again.
