Breaking federal immigration laws for the first time was not enough for at least hundreds of migrants. That won't get them U-visas, which are visas granted to certain crime victims. This is why hundreds of migrants have been accused of staging fake robberies to be afforded such a benefit.
Migrants stage HUNDREDS of fake robberies in Chicago from 2022 to 2024 to get U Visas in immigration fraud schemehttps://t.co/mNqo8x8HHZ

The fact that none of this is surprising is a problem.
According to The Post Millennial:
A Chicago man has been put in the slammer for two years for conducting a fake robbery scheme to help noncitizens obtain U-visas, which can be offered to those in the US if they are victims of specific types of crimes.
The fact that it is also unsurprising that this occurred in Chicago is the second problem.
Parth Nayi, 29, of Woodridge, has been sentenced for organizing hundreds of these fraudulent robberies between 2022 and 2024, and was found out after one of them took a turn for the worse, and a "suspect" accidentally shot a store clerk in the abdomen, critically injuring the victim.
Nayi recruited people to pose as "victims," would pay the store owners to use their business, as well as recruit people to act as "robbers". Those who were robbed would pay between $5,000 and $30,000 in hopes of obtaining a U-visa, which can be given to victims of some crimes who help law enforcement. The "victims" of the crimes would arrive at the businesses followed by the "robbers," and then those purported victims would go to the police to confirm they were victims of a qualified crime.
Even if we must establish such a program like the U-visa, why can't we make an exception for people who exploited our immigration system? Why are we awarding people who disrespect our laws just because something bad happens to them? While this is a gray area, and one could argue that, in many cases, a U-visa is appropriate, this blanket system is, again, a problem.
Hundreds of fake armed robberies. Thousands of fake victims. Two years in prison.Parth Nayi ran staged stickups at gas stations, liquor stores, and coffee shops all over this country so foreigners could claim they were crime victims and get U visas. Each of them paid him $5,000 to $30,000. Prosecutors say he pulled in at least $2 million in cash. Here's what really gets me. The prosecutor only asked for 12 months. The judge had to go higher than the government did.His fake victims made up a big chunk of a visa program that only allows 10,000 a year. Real victims got pushed to the back of the line by people who paid for a fake gun in their face.Every one of those robberies meant a 911 call and cops racing to a scene that was pure theater. So where are the thousands of people who bought their way in? Did they get deported, or are they still holding visas they paid for? This is how the system gets gamed. Nobody in charge seemed to care until now.https://t.co/OUaK7MCxJr

Woodridge was sentenced to a measly two years in federal prison. The slap on the wrist might have something to do with his plea deal, but that is neither here nor there. The fact that systems exist that are easily exploited tells you how much work needs to be done. And to claim the system has not been working with the interest of the American people in mind would be an understatement.
