Did you need any more evidence that Canada is no longer a free country? No? I didn’t think so. Well, here is yet another reason why it isn’t one — not that you needed more examples, but I digress.
A Canadian pastor has been arrested for refusing to apologize to a Calgary Public Library manager after he criticized their drag programming.
According to Rebel News:
Calgary street pastor Derek Reimer has been arrested this afternoon after refusing to comply with a court order requiring him to write a formal apology to a Calgary Public Library manager.
The case stems from Reimer’s opposition to a drag queen story hour for children held at a Calgary public library. During the controversy surrounding the event, Reimer had an interaction with library staff and later posted online about the library manager involved, identifying her and criticizing her in connection to the drag programming.
He was then charged with criminal harassment and “released under strict court-ordered conditions.” Yes, this is the “crime” our neighbors have to deal with. They take this so seriously that they believe he is a threat to the public. You truly cannot make this level of absurdity up.
One of those conditions required Reimer to submit a written apology letter to Slater by a specific court-imposed deadline. Reimer publicly stated he would not comply with the order, saying that being forced to apologize amounted to compelled speech and goes against his convictions.
As the pastor said, he does not believe in compelled speech, especially when it goes against his religious beliefs. Why are the feelings of the library manager more important than his feelings toward the word of God? In case the government was not clear, he only listens to one authority figure, and it’s certainly not them. So, while they think this will scare people into compliance with their drag queen bandwagon, I hardly doubt it will do anything but make people more noncompliant, and that is putting it lightly.
You do not have a free country when you’re not allowed to hurt someone’s feelings. You do not have a free country when you lack freedom of expression. And you do not have a free country when the government demands you apologize for not being politically correct. But what else is new?
As his legal donation fund says, it “shouldn’t even be news that there are peaceful protestors at these events.” But again, when you don’t live in a free country, unserious things become crimes, and that is why this story exists. If he were protesting anything that wasn’t truthful, they wouldn’t force him into an apology, but because the left can’t fight on morals, integrity, facts, or seriousness, here we are.
Reimer is doing what needs to be done, and we can only hope that more pastors refuse to bend the knee to this tyrannical regime.
