Mike Rowe Blasts Politicians Arbitrarily Deciding What Employees are 'Essential'

2020 introduced many of us to the words "essential employee." You could argue that any job is essential to the employee. There's also the question of what jobs are actually essential. Some I feel are obvious: healthcare workers, first responders, grocery store employees. etc. Other "essential" jobs you can argue are anything but. Like politicians, and Facebook "fact" checkers. Millions and millions of American workers found themselves deemed "non-essential." Mostly at the whim of elected officials in 2020. Mike Rowe is concerned.

This doesn't question the data behind COVID or the use of masks. Rowe isn't challenging "science" or "experts." But I feel he has an important point. One you could say is — wait for it — essential.

Mike Rowe on Sean Hannity: The Government Has Deemed 40 Million People Non Essential | Dec 17 2020youtu.be

There's a new word for 40 million people in this country: Non-essential, and it's crazy. We have deemed a giant hunk of our people essentially one click away from unimportant or worthless.

I've seen firsthand that everybody is essential to somebody. Even if you're just working to pay your own bills. So something is going on here that is fundamentally upside down, and the fact that these policies are now being instituted by leaders who have shown themselves to be the very definition of rank hypocrisy is, I'm afraid, going to lead us into a place where it's going to be very difficult to get the poop back in the goose.

There are people who might say the plan was never to put the poop back in the goose. A lot of them tend to be conspiratorial. Pushing back against said conspiracies is difficult when world leaders inadvertently validate them. Personally, I'm concerned about the precedence Americans set this year. It was a little too easy for our leaders to declare which of us are essential and which aren't. Just because ... reasons. I find it essential for us to ask some of these questions in the new year.
