Albuquerque’s glass ceiling shattering first female police chief refuses to enforce the law, work with ICE

The Albuquerque Police Department decided to go with a woman for its new police chief. It is unclear if she was chosen because of her gender, but considering officials are emphasizing she is the first woman to hold this position, it, at the very least, raises suspicion. Nonetheless, the problem is not so much her gender as that she is refusing to cooperate with ICE.
Speaking at a community event regarding immigration status, Barker indicated that it is not something criminal aliens should be worried about.
"[Anyone] can come and contact our police department and that we are not worried about immigration status. We will never ask anyone their immigration status, nor will we notify federal law enforcement about that contact," Albuquerque Police Department Chief Cecily Barker said. She emphasized that the city does not allow immigration briefings on city property and offers a language line and bilingual officers.
Does Barker realize her job is to uphold public safety? How can you do that when you knowingly harbor criminal aliens? Someone should really inform her that just because you break federal immigration laws, that does not automatically make you a good person.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, in conjunction with other federal agencies, arrested 48 illegal aliens who either remained in the country despite being ordered removed by an immigration judge or were charged or convicted of serious crimes while they were illegally present in the United States. The arrests occurred during a week-long enhanced enforcement operation ending March 8 [2025] in Albuquerque, Santa Fe and Roswell, New Mexico where ICE was joined by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the FBI, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the U.S. Marshal Service.
Sanctuary policies like the one the chief of police intends to enforce greatly jeopardize the safety of the public while shielding criminals from accountability. This is not complicated, nor should it be controversial. But since the left woke up one day and decided you don't deserve national security, this is the mess they created, and to call it a slap in the face to law-abiding citizens would be an understatement.
