Is it time to Make Steak Great Again? RFK Jr. believes so, which is why the federal government has rolled out a new set of nutritional guidelines. Today’s show breaks it down.
“I would say it is not only far more sensible, but to me, it begs the question: Why was it not always this?” Crowder said.
As RFK said, it’s time to “eat real food.”
“I don't want to present myself as a nutritionist or doctor, but I do think we can all agree on the realms and boundaries of common sense,” Crowder said. “You should be moving every day and eating whole foods when you're hungry until you're full. If you do that, you're going to solve 90% of the problems.”
According to CNN:
The latest update includes images of an inverted pyramid that puts meats, cheese and vegetables in the widest part at the top, flipping a longstanding visual of the American diet and moving away from the circular MyPlate.
They also suggest prioritizing “fiber-rich” whole grain with two to four servings per day and significantly reducing highly processed, refined carbs including white bread, flour tortillas and crackers.
The guidelines also recommend three servings of vegetables and two servings of fruits per day for a typical 2,000-calorie diet. The guidelines emphasize eating whole foods in their original form but also say, “frozen, dried, or canned vegetables or fruits with no or very limited added sugars can also be good options.”
“Why was there such resistance for so long?” Crowder said.
The left has been claiming for years that meat, specifically steak, increases your risk of preventable disease. However, when you take out the processed red meat, that could not be further from the truth. The literature supports that.
“If you were to only eat red meat for the rest of your life, you could do it, but it won't be ideal. If you were to only eat vegetables, kale, and spinach, you would see your health erode pretty quickly. That's a pretty good indicator of what your body wants,” Crowder said.
