Watch: Dave Chapelle Slams Conservatives "Weaponizing" His Jokes, And We Have Thoughts

Dave Chappelle said to NPR is not happy that Conservatives have “weaponized” his trans jokes. Today’s show breaks it down.
“I think this interview does highlight the important differences between those on the right and our views on free speech, and those on the left who we view as sharing common ground on free speech. We are not the same, and our approach is not the same,” Crowder said.
Defending his decision to perform in Riyadh, Chappelle said, “The United States government does business with the Saudis, Netflix does business with the Saudis,” adding that the only reason it was controversial was that he was Black. “As soon as a Black man can make money off the plantation, they try to tell you the money is dirty,” he added.
"If we are going to use his analogy, Saudi Arabia is an actual plantation; they actually have slaves," Crowder said, adding that it is number four in the top 10 slave owning countries in the world.
“I do not have a problem with him performing there and saying, ‘Look, there are plenty of places where I perform where people have abhorrent views,’ but then going to the Black thing, and talking about slavery in the United States when they still have slaves — doesn't that matter?” Crowder said. “You didn't go there and speak out against slavery, but you will speak out against slave owners in the past.”
It would not be surprising if there were slaves in the building he performed in.
“Pretty much all the White countries do not have slaves. All the ones that have them are brown, yellow, or black. It is the Middle East, Arab nations, Asian nations, and African nations. Let’s just be as straightforward as possible,” Crowder said. “Today, the only places that don't practice are nice, basic White countries. Do you still want to play the racism card?”
According to USA Today:
"I did resent that the Republican Party ran on transgender jokes," he told NPR. "You know, I felt like they were doing a weaponized version of what I was doing. It's not what I was doing."
In particular, Chappelle criticized Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert, who in 2023 posted a selfie with the comedian, alongside Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, with the caption, "Just three people who understand that there's only two genders." Chappelle noted the photo was taken when he was visiting Capitol Hill and taking pictures with everyone who asked.
"Here comes Lauren Boebert," he recalled. "She's like, 'Can I get a picture?' And I had already taken 40 pictures. I didn't want to say no in front of everybody. But I didn't know the phrase, 'I respectfully decline,' so I just took the picture. And then she posts the picture … she instantly weaponized it, or politicized it. … You should never do that to a person like me."
While some may argue it was distasteful that Boebert posted the photo, “weaponized” is a strong word.
"Either the statement is accurate, or it is not. Either the joke is funny, or it is not. And a lot of that is subjective. But him now saying he was joking and the right has weaponized it, that is a fundamentally different view on the approach,” Crowder said, adding that he is “adding a motive.”
While it is no surprise that Chappelle is a liberal, he still claims the right’s motives are not pure, while his are.
“This will come back around to bite him when he steps off the leftist plantation, and he says something they disagree with,” Crowder said. “It is quite ill-advised.”
