Gavin Newsom sues Fox Newsom targets popular hosts, over coverage of an alleged phone call with Donald Trump

I don’t know about you, but I would not call those mostly peaceful riots that took place in Los Angeles this month a winning campaign strategy for Gavin Newsom. This may or may not be why California’s Supreme Leader has decided to sue Fox News for $787 million.
“No more lies. I’m suing Fox News for $787 million,” the self-suggested moderate said on X.
Oh, so you’re cool with suing people for nearly $1 billion for alleged lies?
I hope Trump sues you over this one. pic.twitter.com/vyOqEet5VM

The California governor accused Fox News of defamation in a lawsuit Friday morning, alleging the network should fork over $787 million after host Jesse Watters claimed Newsom lied about his phone calls with Trump, who ordered National Guard troops to Los Angeles this month. Newsom’s lawyers argue Watters’ program misleadingly edited a video of Trump to support the claim.
JUST IN: California Governor Gavin Newsom sues Fox News for $800M, accusing the network of lying about his call with President Trump during the LA riots.
Newsom is specifically demanding an on-air apology from Jesse Watters.

Call me crazy, but the man had the receipts! Still, I highly doubt Newsom can prove in civil court that this claim justifies over half a billion dollars in damages — but that’s neither here nor there.
The Democratic likely presidential hopeful’s request for damages is nearly identical to the $787.5 million sum Fox News paid Dominion Voting Systems in 2023 to settle another defamation case over election falsehoods. And it comes amid a spate of lawsuits from Trump against major media and other companies that resulted in multi-million dollar settlements.
Again, that is a bit of a stretch, if you ask me…..
“If Fox News wants to lie to the American people on Donald Trump’s behalf, it should face consequences — just like it did in the Dominion case,” Newsom told POLITICO in a statement. “Until Fox is willing to be truthful, I will keep fighting against their propaganda machine.”
Okay, but if Fox lied, where was the lie? I am still confused as to what was untruthful and what Newsom did that the network alleged he did not do.
Burning cars, burning flags, molotov cocktails, looting, rioting: this is Gavin Newsom's California.

At best, we have a network that confused dates….maybe…. I don’t know…
A copy of Newsom’s complaint filed in the Delaware Superior Court — in the same state where Fox News is incorporated — claims he last spoke with Trump for approximately 16 minutes by phone on June 7, one day before the president deployed 2,000 California National Guard troops over Newsom’s objections to quell protests in Los Angeles.
Trump, however, told reporters on June 10 he had spoken with Newsom “a day ago,” implying a conversation took place the same day 700 U.S. Marines were deployed to Los Angeles. Newsom refuted Trump’s claim in a post on X minutes later.
I still don’t understand how any of this adds up to over $700 million in damages — do you? If I didn’t know any better, I might say this is just a PR stunt for his future presidential campaign, and that he has no real intention of actually seeking damages from the network. But since I do know better, I won’t say any of that!
Does this sound like a man who did everything he could to uphold public safety? Because I don’t think it does….
Newsom’s message should have been “stay at home, stop rioting, stop obstructing federal agents from enforcing the law”.
Instead, Newsom said Trump was a dictator, threat to democracy, and encouraged more demonstrations nationwide.

Question: Will Newsom also fork over ‘damages’ to California residents who have suffered far too long under his regime? No? Didn’t think so. But this man clearly thinks he’s more important than the little people—and that couldn’t be more obvious if he tried.

People in middle America aren’t exactly loving this whole ‘mostly peaceful’ riot thing, and Newsom knows it. Maybe that’s why he’s trying to twist the story before he even announces he’s running. But hey, I’m just putting it out there—last thing I need is a $700 billion lawsuit from the Cali governor, so take my words with a grain of salt.
Whether the network lied and whether Newsom deserves nearly $800 billion in damages is for you to decide. Only time will tell if Fox News issues the retraction and apology that Newsom demands. Until then, I’ve yet to see any evidence that he did everything possible to uphold law and order.
