USAID Food Being SOLD in a Street Market
As we were passing through a Haitian street market in the Dominican Republic, we noticed a bag of rice from USAID.

USAID donates food to Haiti to address mass hunger and extreme poverty. These donations are not intended for resale. This is why it is bizarre that a street vendor was caught reselling rice from a USAID bag at a street market in the Dominican Republic.
When journalists from Muckraker asked the lady how much for a portion of rice, she informed them it was 100 pesos per pound, which is about $1.68 USD. The problem with this is that it is unlawful under both federal law and Haitian regulations to resell aid. It remains unclear how the lady got hold of such large quantities of rice, so draw your own conclusions. Nonetheless, common sense would tell you this is very unlikely to be the intended purpose of that product.
The United States is the single largest donor of humanitarian and development assistance to Haiti, helping to meet the needs of the most vulnerable Haitians through health care, shelter, food, nutrition, water/sanitation, and other relief.
Since fiscal year 2021, the U.S. government has provided nearly $813 million in development, economic, health, and security assistance to Haiti, as well as more than $430 million in humanitarian assistance.
While some may argue it is great that American tax dollars are being spent to make other countries better off, some argue that the funds should be prioritized for Americans. And videos like this help prove the latter point, doesn't it?
Ironically, the woman selling the rice does not seem to be in dire need of food. Why do you think that is?
When people say their tax dollars ought to be going to their intended purpose, this is what they mean. The fact that things like this are controversial with the left tells you all you need to know.
