Tough break for Rep. Eric Swallows (D-CA). He was the leading Democrat in the California gubernatorial primary. Then news broke that he was, allegedly, a sleezy philanderer who may or may not be rapey (there are allegations). Democrats bravely called on him to withdraw from the race where there are other Democrat options, though they aren't calling on him to resign from Congress for some reason. But the best part? Being kicked out of a billionaire's house, who has now turned libertarian because Swalwell gave him the ick.

Rep. Swallows was accused "by a former staffer that she was raped while drunk at an April 2024 charity gala." There have been multiple other women who have come out and accused him of various forms of "sexual misconduct." Apparently, this has been an open secret in politics for over a decade, which we'll get to a little later.

Everyone who endorsed Swallows has unendorsed him immediately because, again, there are other Democrats they could support. It's not like this was a general election where the left would need to bury the story (or blame the victims) because the alternative would be letting a Republican win.

Then you have Lefty billionaire Stephen Cloobeck. Swalwell was hiding out in his mansion, hoping things would blow over. Not anymore.

“I am no longer supporting Eric,” Cloobeck told The Post in an exclusive interview. “F—ing tell everyone I’m a libertarian. F— you, Democrat Party. I’m a libertarian now.”

As for the open secret and journalismers now admitting they knew that Swallows was a rapey douche (allegedly) all along?

Multiple things can be true.

1. I'm sure there are hundreds of these stories that reporters have heard and/or tried to chase down. If the alleged victims don't come forward or speak out on the record, even anonymously, there isn't much that can be reported.

2. Shocker, someone on the Democrat side "encouraged" the girls to speak out now.

3. The lack of alleged victims not speaking out would never have stopped journalismers or the Democrat Party (but I repeat myself) from pushing the stories out there if they thought it could hurt a Republican.

As for Rep. Swallows? Again, multiple things can be true. A man shouldn't be guilty until proven innocent when accusations are levied at them. Also, guilty until proven innocent is the standard Swallows has supported in the past, so now he can choke on his own rules.
