You did not have to be a so-called “expert” to have understood there was zero science behind California closing its beaches. You don't have to be a scientist to understand that much, if not all, of the COVID mandates were pseudoscientific and arbitrary, at best. And you don't have to be a doctor to understand that when the left demanded you follow the science, they were really referring to political science. This is why it is pathetic for Gavin Newsom to, all of a sudden, as he finishes his final term as Governor, now admit regret for what he subjected residents to.

This pathetic joke of an apology fools no one. We are talking about the same man who kept many schools closed but sent his kids to private school. We are talking about the man who let restaurants go out of business, while he partied it up, maskless, at a swanky restaurant most people would never be able to afford. And we are talking about a man who had some of the strictest lockdown protocols in the entire country. Pathetic, just pathetic.
April 2020. Newsom announces he's closing down beaches in Orange County because they weren't following the Covid rules.
"My job as Governor is to keep you safe."
A few months later he was flouting the rules at French Laundry.
"That was insane in hindsight" he says now. https://t.co/pVm1qjkbcA pic.twitter.com/f8jjzVuLEJ

Per the New York Post:
The idea that we closed beaches was insane in hindsight,” Newsom said, adding the caveat that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis initially closed beaches in his state as public officials scrambled to understand the virus.
Newsom also acknowledged that California’s largest public school systems remained closed too long, pointing specifically to Los Angeles Unified School District.
“Obviously, the schools taking too long,” Newsom said. “A lot of districts were open, but the big ones weren’t. LA refused, and I regret that.”

Too bad this fake regret is far too late. If he thinks he can suddenly pretend to care only after the damage has been done, as rumors continue to swirl that he is mulling a 2028 presidential bid, he’s wrong.
