Portland City Council Bans Guns At City Hall Following School Shooting Where Good Guy With A Gun Saved Lives

A lot of the time, a bad guy with a gun is stopped by a good guy with a gun. Many people even argue that guns save far more lives than they harm. In one recent incident, a father in Bend, Oregon, did just that when he stopped a school shooter because he was a good guy with a gun in the right place and at the right time. This is what makes it bizarre, to say the least, that the Portland City Council has approved a resolution that bans good guys with guns.

Can anyone make sense of this?
According to The Post Millennial:
Portland City Council voted unanimously on Wednesday to ban concealed carry holders from carrying handguns in City Hall and other public buildings.
Oregon’s Senate Bill 243, passed in 2025, lets local governments take away the “affirmative defense” that allowed licensed carry holders to be armed in public buildings, with a possible misdemeanor charge.
This comes after a case in October when a hero father in Bend, Oregon, armed with a weapon, was able to stop a mass shooter at a school. The father, whose daughter was inside the school, was driving past the school and saw the shooter entering, and was able to quickly intervene and kill the shooter at Silver Rail Elementary School with his .40-caliber handgun. The gunman, Griffin J. John II, had killed 3 children before the father, Kaylub Giamanco, was able to stop him from hurting more people.
Council Vice President Olivia Clark thought twice about approving the resolution, as it is evident guns can be life-saving in many instances, but decided to vote with her leftie commands anyway, as logic should never come in the way of the left’s progressive utopia. I am paraphrasing here, but that is what it comes down to.
Here is the 911 call from the instance where the dad informed the operator that there was a bad guy with a gun and he was a good guy with a gun and would do what he felt was necessary to save the lives of the people in that school.
Authorities on Tuesday released the 911 call made by Kaylub Giamanco as he rushed to help during the October 15 shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon. The 16-year-old gunman killed a teacher and three students before Giamanco, whose two daughters were inside the school, confronted and fatally shot him.

The left thinks that if you ban guns, that will eliminate the risk of bad guys with guns. The problem with this logic, or lack thereof, is that bad guys with guns don't follow this little thing called “laws.” This is more evidence you did not need, and it proves the City Council does not have intelligence on their side. But what else is new?
