The people are still divided over whether or not pineapples belong on pizza. One chef, however, believes he knows the answer to this question and was reportedly fired over his firm stance.

An Italian chef was fired, and reports say it was because he refused to put the tropical fruit on pizza.

Per the New York Post:

An Italian chef in Brisbane, Australia, denied a request to add pineapple to pizza, calling it an “insult to his culture,” and was subsequently fired.

The chef, Davide Tamburella, was let go from the now-shuttered La Costa restaurant after management recorded a series of complaints about his conduct, including his pineapple non-compliance.

He felt that the decision to fire him was so absurd that he even took it to the Fair Work Commission in Australia.

The Commission released its ruling on Tuesday, noting that Tamburella’s refusal to add the tropical topping hinged on the fact that, “he considers, as an Italian, that putting pineapple on a pizza is an insult to his culture.”

Well, it is hard to argue with that claim. According to the outlet, there have been at least three instances in which he refused to put pineapple on pizza. And while I am not here to tell you the firing was unjustified, I am here to tell you he makes a valid point.

To be fair, the restaurant did claim the pineapple was only the icing on the cake. They reported that his behavior was also a problem, as they claimed he would use inappropriate language, and this would cause frustration in the working environment. And again, while I am not the judge, nor is this chef on trial, I will say that pineapple, in fact, does not belong on pizza. Do with that information what you will.
