The fact that this story is unsurprising is part of the problem.
Abdi Daisane owned a daycare in Minnesota. Allegations indicate he may or may not be tied to a massive fraud settlement. Nonetheless, voters just elected him as a state lawmaker because, of course, they did.
'LOST STATE:' A Somali daycare owner whose business has faced scrutiny over millions in state and federal funding defeated a Republican incumbent to win a Minnesota House seat.Abdi Daisane's Blooming Kids Child Care Center has been cited for over a dozen violations, and as sponsored for state funding by a nonprofit that the state claims "knowingly defrauded" Minnesota to the tune of $18 million.Full story here https://t.co/NywBNEZaXQ

According to Fox News:
The owner of a Somali daycare center that has faced scrutiny over state and federal funding and is linked to a massive fraud settlement won a seat in the Minnesota legislature Tuesday night.
Did these voters even do their due diligence before casting their ballot? Or did voters just pick anyone but the Republican candidate? Do they even care that they elected someone whose business partnered with an entity allegedly tied to allegations of a fraud settlement? Or is this just another Tuesday for these people?
Minnesota Democratic–Farmer–Labor Party (DFL) candidate Abdi Daisane defeated a Republican incumbent to win Minnesota’s House District 14A seat in St. Cloud, Minnesota, becoming the first Somali-born lawmaker in the statehouse from St. Cloud, MPR News reported.
While we all know the saying, “vote blue no matter who.” Minnesota seems to have taken that slogan and turned it into, “Vote Somali, no matter who.”
Daisane, who delivered part of his victory speech in Somali, is the CEO of Blooming Kids Child Care Center in St. Cloud, which has received $7.29 million from the state-run Child Care Assistance Program since 2018.
While it is great that he delivered his speech in a language not spoken by the majority of people in this country, someone should really inform him that in America, we don't speak Somali.
A press release from the settlement says Partners in Nutrition "knowingly defrauded the State of Minnesota out of millions of dollars in federal child nutrition funds during and after the COVID-19 pandemic, in violation of the Minnesota False Claims Act."
It truly is astonishing. Voters just be out there electing anyone not labeled as a Republican. They would rather destroy this country than vote for the more qualified candidate. And while I am not here to tell you Republicans are automatically more qualified, I will say picking the candidate tied to allegations that his business partnered with another business that defrauded Minnesota taxpayers will unlikely serve voters best. That's just my two cents. You can draw your own conclusions.
