California voters have voted time and again to uphold the death penalty. This is why it is a threat to Democracy that Gov. Gavin Newsom has decided to grant clemency to over 500 convicted felons on death row, all under the guise of “culture,” whatever that even means.
🚨 HOLY CRAP. Gov. Gavin Newsom just moved to commute California's ENTIRE death row, all 548 death sentences are being shifted to LIFE without paroleThat covers some of the most heinous killers in state history ‼️Newsom says it's all about "California values"The State Supreme Court will need to review his decision. This is absolutely INSANE. Capital punishment is a deterrent for criminals and we should be leaning IN to it for the worst crimes, not backing away!

While the state supreme court still needs to approve this nonsense, the fact he did this right before he left office says it all.
According to the Death Penalty Information Center:
California Governor Gavin Newsom announced today, November 5, 2026, that he is commuting the death sentences of all 548 people on the state’s death row, granting the largest mass clemency in American history. In his statement announcing the decision, Gov. Newsom said, “I take this action because I firmly believe that state-sanctioned killing is incompatible with California’s values, undermines the foundations of our legal system, and diminishes all of us.” Governor Newsom announced a moratorium on executions just two months into his first term as governor in 2019, calling the death penalty a “failure” and citing serious concerns about persistent racial discrimination, high costs, and the risk of human error.
Since he was sworn in, he has put a moratorium on the death penalty. This directly contradicts a voter-approved ballot measure where voters decided to speed up the process for those on death row. And while I am not here to tell you the governor is overriding the will of the people, I will say that for the man who claims to defend democracy, he sure knows how to slap voters in the face. Most recently, in 2016, voters also upheld the death penalty.
Here are some of the people currently on death row.
Here is a sample of the 548 people that just had their death penalty commuted by Gov. Newsom:1. Charles NgBrutally murdered 11 people, including men, women, and infants2. Randy KraftBrutally murdered at least 16 young men, torturing and dismembering victims3. Marcus Wesson Brutally murdered 9 family members, his children & nieces4. Cary StaynerBrutally murdered 4 women, including three sightseers near Yosemite, and beheaded a nature guide5. Richard Allen Davis.Brutally murdered 12-year-old Polly Klaas after kidnapping her from a sleepover6. Chester TurnerBrutally murdered 10 women in LAThere are still 542 more

When Newsom said “all,” we can be certain that includes these monsters. The fact that this is one of his last moves as Governor, as he leaves the state in a much worse place, is infuriating. Do you need any more proof that these politicians hate you? I don't think you do.
