It's apparently illegal to call your fat neighbor "fat" in the UK, as one bloke just found out

In the UK, it’s not really legal to hurt people’s feelings — and one man learned that the hard way after he called his neighbor fat.
British man fined by UK court after calling his neighbour “fat.”
Prosecutors said the man’s ‘fat-shaming' remark caused 'harassment and distress' to his female neighbor during an argument and said it “was a sustained incident.”

According to GB News:
A man has been slapped with a £100 fine after calling his neighbour "fat".
The comment made by Aaron Quinn, 33, is said to have caused "distress" to neighbour Sarah Allen.
The 33-year-old said he had been grieving the death of his mother and suffering from insomnia when he made the fat-shaming remark.
I would just like to know: is she, in fact, overweight? Because the truth can hurt, and sometimes people hear things they don’t want to hear. But the UK government doesn’t care about that, as to them, there seems to be no worse offense than hurting someone’s feelings.
Prosecutors, however, labelled the comment about Ms Allen's weight as a "sustained" incident.
Well, you know what is not sustained? Likely Ms. Allen’s weight, but that is neither here nor there.
If people in the UK are not free to insult their annoying neighbors, are they even free? No, the answer is no. And while I tend to err on the side of caution and not mention people’s weight—at least to their face—not everyone is like that. This is a right people should have, even if it isn’t polite. The government can’t compel you to speak or not speak in a certain way. Well, they shouldn’t, but in the UK it’s the government that grants your rights, so this is where we are.
Some people are fat, and the fact that she went to the authorities over this proves to me that she very likely is. And at this point, that is nothing more than a personal problem. She can go snitch on her neighbor all she wants, but that won’t change the reality of the scale. And the sooner she realizes that, the better off she will be.
Is it time to make fat shaming great again? Because I would assume so.
