Kathy Hochul is running for reelection for New York Governor, which means pandering to Manhattan and Brooklyn while ignoring the rest of the state. Donald Trump, a local Queens businessman, called her out for releasing 7,000 hardcore criminals for...I don't know, reasons. Her team calls it a lie, and they may have a point. Hochul didn't open the door herself. And it wasn't 7,000. It was only...6,947. I guess Trump is the first politician to ever exaggerate.

If we were an "independent" "fact" checker whose definition of fact-checking was nitpicking over rhetoric and doing so in bad faith, it's the word "just" that gets Donald Trump in trouble. At least, depending on your definition of "just."

If Trump had said "just last year," well...

New York’s failure to honor ICE detainers has resulted in the release of 6,947 criminal illegal aliens since January 20. The crimes of these aliens include 29 homicides, 2,509 assaults, 199 burglaries, 305 robberies, 392 dangerous drugs offenses, 300 weapons offenses, and 207 sexual predatory offenses.

There are currently 7,113 aliens in the custody of a New York jurisdiction with an active detainer. The crimes of these aliens include 148 homicides, 717 assaults, 134 burglaries, 106 robberies, 235 dangerous drugs offenses, 152 weapons offenses, and 260 sexual predatory offenses.

So, yeah. Hochul didn't release 7,000 people two days ago. So you can't say she "just" released 7,000 people. Especially when the real number is ONLY...6,947.

Hochul is running for reelection to be governor of Manhattan and Brooklyn and is campaigning on her "I Care More About Illegals Than American Citizens Act," on top of other constituent services.

Her Republican opponent Bruce Blakeman, who is running to be governor for ALL of New York, has made crime the focal point of his campaign. Also, affordability. You know, what with New York being one of the least affordable states in the country and Hochul being one of the two people in charge for the past twelve years.

But, again, this is about Donald Trump's claims that Kathy Hochul JUST released 7,000 criminal illegals.

She didn't JUST release them. They were released by other people throughout 2025.

And it wasn't 7,000. It was only 6,947.
