Jimmy Kimmel to make his return to TV tonight? "Not so fast," says major ABC affiliate

Absolutely spot on from @petermeijer: “I’m really trying to plumb the depths of my profound indifference for Jimmy Kimmel’s career here. But to your point on the echo chambers, that’s very real. And this was what got Jimmy Kimmel in this problem in the first place. He was… pic.twitter.com/oblW6CkcOC

Disney announced that Jimmy Kimmel will return from his temporary suspension on Tuesday night. I know what some of you are thinking, "Hey Brodigan, I thought Kimmel was cancelled because Donald Trump launched an assault on Democracy?"
Yes, that's what was reported in the news. It turns out, and this may shock you, that that was not the case. Kimmel wasn't removed because the FCC Chairman gave a dumb interview. He was suspended because of his insensitive comments -- i.e., repeating the BlueAnon conspiracy theory that Charlie Kirk's assassin was MAGA -- and concern he would further inflame a tense situation. You know, what with him being a douche.
Democracy survives to fight another news cycle.
So basically his employer suspended him for being an insensitive prick, and we don’t live in an authoritarian regime? Got it. https://t.co/Z4j98MhbR6

As you can imagine, the left and the media are handling the news with the class and dignity you would expect them to.
Dignity is a choice. https://t.co/CT0gE2ThPR

Here's the rub, though. Kimmel won't be on ALL your televisions. This whole brouhaha (if I may invoke a little French) started when two ABC affiliates, Sinclair and Nextar, pulled the show over Kimmel being a misinformation-spreading, hateful prick. As of this writing, Sinclair is keeping him off the air:
“Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting Jimmy Kimmel Live! across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
There is no word on what Nextar is going to do.
Among the Sinclair affiliates that won't be seeing Kimmel is the Washington DC area. That means Kimmel's largest base of support -- Democrat politicians and the DC media -- won't get to see him triple down on his hateful rhetoric as he lets guest Gavin Newsom unofficially launch his 2028 presidential campaign.
I'm just relieved that Democracy was saved. When a multimillionaire wasn't able to broadcast for a few days, the future of America looked a little dicey. Democrat talking points were only being repeated late at night on two out of three networks.
