The state of Illinois must be looking at California and thinking, "We can be worse than that." It's not difficult--they already have Chicago, which is a terrible place for everyone except the criminals who effectively run the city. But that isn't good enough. Lawmakers in the state want to turn the entire state into Chicago and plan to do so by eliminating cash bail.

In a report from KY3, it states that "Illinois is getting ready for some changes in 2023 that include eliminating its cash bail system." While there were a handful of lawmakers who voted against the bill, citing the obvious results the elimination of cash bail would have, the bill passed.

Johnson County Sheriff Peter Sopczak said, "Anyone sitting in jail right now with all these pending charges, they’re going to be let out. The gates are open and they’re going to be let out onto the streets."

Patrick Windhorst, a state representative who voted against the SAFE-T Act--much like the Inflation Reduction Act, it serves to do the opposite of its title--listed off several of the charges for which criminals will be allowed to walk free before trial, and the list should scare the ever-living hell out of Illinois residents:

• Violent crimes
• Burglary
• Robbery
• Arson
• Kidnapping
• Almost all drug offenses
• DUI (even those involving fatalities)

So, much like in New York City, criminals will be able to perform violent crimes and be allowed back out onto the street almost immediately to keep doing whatever they want to do. If you're looking to make your state a safe place for decent people to live, this is not how you go about doing that.

However, that isn't what Democrats are worried about. They're looking to make criminals a voting block that will cast ballots for them, and because nothing matters more than them keeping what power they have, they're more than happy risking your lives if it means a handful of new votes.
