Can you name one good thing the BLM movement has done for the Black community? No? I didn't think so. You certainly can, however, name many bad things this movement and people involved in it have done that have been disastrous towards the Black community. This is why it is disingenuous for Sunny Hostin to imply this “uprising” has done anything beneficial for Black people.
According to Sunny Hostin, “there is no compassion between the Black Lives Matter movement and Jan. 6.” And in that regard, she is correct. There is no comparison. However, she justified this stance by claiming there was “very limited destruction of property and violence” during the “uprising of this movement.” This is incorrect because these riots caused the largest insurance claim in American history, while the amount of damage caused by Jan. 6 rioters was less than $3 million. While both numbers should be closer to $0, as Hostin said, it is comparing apples to oranges.
While any kind of lawlessness is wrong, especially when it comes to the destruction of property and violence, the BLM movement was heavily dependent on that, while nearly no one was held accountable. Jan. 6, however, was a one-time event, and people were punished for simply existing near the scene -- and some even prosecuted even though they were in a different city at the time of the riot. Again, one of these things is not like the other.
According to Axios, “The vandalism and looting following the death of George Floyd at the hands of the Minneapolis police will cost the insurance industry more than any other violent demonstrations in recent history.” We are talking $2 billion in claims. That is “catastrophic.” And the worst part is that many of these riots took place in Black communities. So, while the left claimed this damage was all done under the guise of ending racism, it created chaos for the ones they pretended to fight for. Weird how those things work out.
Was Jan. 6 bad? Sure. Were the BLM riots of 2020 worse? Absolutely. Is Sunny Hostin a naive buffoon who would do herself a lot of favors if she stopped talking? Of course. That is all that can be concluded from her pathetic rant, and it is disingenuous, to say the very least, for her to claim otherwise.- YouTube www.youtube.com
