According to Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, “we cannot incarcerate our way out of violence.” He justified this by claiming “we tried that and we ended up with the largest prison population in the world without solving the problems of crime and violence.” He added that this is “racist, immoral and unholy” and most certainly “is not the way to drive violence down.”
Now, if Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson has a better idea, we would like to hear it, but I certainly hope he’s not advocating for the release of prisoners. Because if there is one thing you would assume we should agree on, it’s holding people accountable when they commit violence — but something tells me he believes otherwise.
Additionally, to call this racist actually makes him racist, as he implies only a certain group of people commit crimes, which could not be further from the truth. Nonetheless, the real problem with his stance is that he treats convicts and suspects like victims when their actions harm others. What about those people? Don’t they deserve justice? Or does he believe only those accused of awful crimes deserve help here?
Look what has happened in Chicago just this year.
Democrats: "Crime is NOT out of control in our cities."
Meanwhile, the numbers in Chicago:

Call me crazy, but maybe, just maybe, if they stop letting out repeat offenders there would be less crime. But I am no criminal justice expert, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
.@GiannoCaldwell: Violence Has Become The Norm In Chicago

What about stuff like this?
🚨BREAKING: Chicago thug with a lengthy criminal record beats a 76-year-old man to death at a bus stop before carjacking a grandma and threatening to shoot her grandkids dead.
Let’s be very clear: There’s a crime emergency in Chicago that requires the National Guard. https://t.co/FcLSw381wA pic.twitter.com/LgvRSqiBRH

What does Johnson believe is the solution for criminals who commit these gruesome acts? And don’t you wish he talked about the victims with as much conviction as he does about criminals?
It’s unclear who Johnson is actually advocating in favor of, but you do the math. Nonetheless, it certainly is not the great law-abiding citizens of Chicago who just desperately want a safe city to live in. And to call his rhetoric a slap in the face to justice does not even begin to describe it.
