CBS reporter gets told not to focus on the rally supporting Trump's actions in Iran, but he goes viral doing it anyway

WATCH: In a Facebook Live stream, Sinclair-owned CBS Austin multimedia journalist @VinnyMartorano refuses his bosses' order to spin and downplay the rally in support of the U.S.-Israel strikes on Iran.

You can understand the confusion. The CBS News desk saw a mob of people flying foreign flags, so they assumed it was an anti-Trump rally. The colors of the Iranian and Mexican flags are similar, so thinking people were protesting the president's common-sense illegal immigration reforms was a good assumption. Once it was realized that a) the demonstration was not that, and that worse, b) it was celebrating Trump's actions that took out the Ayatollah, a reporter was told by his superiors not to focus on the rally.
But reporter Vinny Martorano stayed to do it anyway.
“Thank you Trump”

This clip went viral over the weekend, and I'm unsure of the origin. Like most viral videos on the X-Twitters, it started with someone stealing someone else's content from the TikToks. And you can't even be sure if the account it was stolen from there was the original source. It looks like a bystander caught the reporter talking to his producer and/or cameraman before doing his stand-up.
It's also unclear who was on the other side of the phone from the CBS News affiliate telling him not to focus on the rally. But methinks they'll be getting a phonecall from the boss today.
Semafor: "At times, the CBS editor-in-chief has seemed to be more in touch with the changing geopolitical dynamics in Trump’s Washington than other international journalists in the newsroom."https://t.co/vXZ5vRpUr4

When we say a "bias of omission," this is what we mean. News outlets have been covering protests for the past year. Since Donald Trump was reelected, there has been a protest staged every week, and news desks across the United States of Trump's America always seem to find those newsworthy. Not who is organizing and funding the protests, naturally. Just that the protests are happening.
They’re bringing in the signs already. So much money is behind being ready this fast. My livestream will be on YouTube in half an hour. See you there. pic.twitter.com/VUYT0XS477

Yet when this group of immigrants rallied and flew the flags of their home country, someone at CBS Austin didn't see the news value of it. After all, they're not attacking Donald Trump. They are -- get this -- saying thank you. Imagine that. People who are "refugees" in this country celebrating this country. Especially when a lot of them still have relatives in Iran who, at least according to the most recent news reports, are no longer living under the Ayatollah.
That, to CBS News Austin, wasn't newsworthy. Next weekend, when white liberals are wearing keffiyehs and yakking about how no one is illegal on stolen land, the press will be all about it.
