California Supreme Court Rejects Catholic Group's Challenge. Says Abortion is 'Medically Necessary'
Before someone says "Yeah, but California, LOL!" just don't. Before you say something like "people in California should just move to somewhere like Texas" understand Texas is turning purple because people move all the time, not just conservatives fleeing liberalism. At some point, and probably soon, "just move" and "Lol, liberal states are stupid" aren't going to work. A subject I'll explore at length another time. For now, California just walloped the First Amendment right in the kisser, telling a Catholic group that actually, the selective killing of unborn children is medically necessary and must be provided in healthcare plans.
From Yahoo! News:
The California Department of Managed Health Care in 2014 sent letters to seven health care service plans directing them not to limit or exclude coverage for abortions, including those abortions that are not required to save the life of the mother. The letters ordered the state-licensed health care service plans to eliminate any language in their agreements that “may discriminate against women by limiting or excluding coverage for termination of pregnancies.”
"Safe, legal and rare" my glorious butt cheeks.
Since then, the Missionary Guadalupanas of the Holy Spirit have sought legal remedies to the rule, arguing that California flouted the Administrative Procedures Act by neglecting to give the rule a public hearing and comment period.
But Planned Parenthoodwas given a chance to comment on the rule. Probably because Planned Parenthood shares some of its abortion earnings with certain California politicians and judges. Here's looking at you Attorney General Xavier Beccera and Judge Orrick.
The baby-killing-mill pressured the state's health regulators to toe the pro-abortion line. Or so I imagine, based on the truths contained in the paragraph above.
Meanwhile, goodbye religious freedom, hello Nazi dictates. We can just skip over the clear biological fact life begins at conception. No "pro-science" leftist wants to consider that inconvenient truth. But the Catholic Church, like it or not, has always been adamantly against abortion. To mandate any Catholic group cover abortion, in anyway, is a violation of the FIRST Amendment.
If you think this will only happen in California, don't be naive. Liberal policymakers in your state will take notes and see what they can do to make it happen.
Voting matters. Judges matter. Local politics matter. Get involved.
