The current federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour. Mississippi has not adopted its own minimum wage and utilizes the federal one. Hawaii has a minimum wage nearly double that of the federal one at $14 per hour and is the most expensive state to live in. Followed by that, California is the most expensive state to live in with a minimum wage of $16 per hour.

The five states that have not adopted a state minimum wage include Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee. Four out of five states that have not adopted the wage are in the top 10 cheapest places to live.

Based on that information, any idiot can conclude that there is a correlation between raising the minimum wage and an increasing cost of living. But some California officials have reached a level of idiocy that no one thought was possible. Because only a moron would demand a $50 federal minimum wage and think it’s a good thing.

Democrat Congresswoman Barbara Lee demanded that the federal minimum wage be raised to $50 an hour.

A Monday night debate in California between several candidates vying for an open Senate seat included a question about raising the minimum wage to $50, an idea that one Democrat candidate has floated.

"In the Bay Area, I believe it was the United Way that came out with a report that very recently $127,000 for a family of four is just barely enough to get by," Democrat Congresswoman Barbara Lee said when asked to defend her previous support of a $50 minimum wage and explain how it would be "sustainable."

"Another survey very recently, $104,000; for a family of one, barely enough to get by, low income because of the affordability crisis."

Lee has previously called for a $50 minimum wage, which would amount to around $104,000 per year of income. The federal minimum wage is $7.25 per hour and ranges from $16 to $20 in California.

A Big Mac meal is now $18. That's about an hour of work for a minimum-wage employee in California. Can you imagine what the cost of that meal would be if we increase the wage to nearly $43?

This is exactly why we have checks and balances. Firstly, a federal minimum wage is foolish to begin with because $15 an hour in Los Angeles is a completely different situation than $15 in Jackson. But considering this woman represents Oakland, I am not surprised with how stupid she is.

So many people would be out of a job all across the country if the government did that. Anytime, anywhere that the minimum increases it always results in more unemployment. We have had a federal minimum wage for not even 100 years and things have gotten so much more expensive.

The minimum wage was never supposed to be what one calls a "living wage."

I just cannot comprehend how Barbara Lee is this dumb. And the fact that she is a sitting congresswoman is baffling. But then again, I guess we can't have too high of expectations for Oakland voters.
