A teen wrestler didn't realize she was being forced to wrestle a dude who claimed to be a girl until they/them's fingers went somewhere they shouldn't have. That portion of the story alone should be enough for the adults responsible to have their arms ripped off and beaten with them (figuratively) before you get the authorities involved. Then you learn that the alleged incident was ignored or buried until the victim reached out to an independent reporter, who began asking questions.

Charges have finally been filed against school officials. Though, of course, not the wrestler accused of sexual assault.

The original story was broken by independent journalist Brandi Kruse from unDivided.

Kallie Keeler, a sixteen-year-old who has wrestled all her life, was in the middle of a match with someone she thought was also a girl. You know, what with it being a girls' wrestling competition and all that.

Video taken by Kallie’s mom on December 6 captures the disgust and panic in Kallie’s face. She tries to mouth something to her mom: "Her fingers are in my (vagina)."

Traumatized and confused, Kallie decided to let her opponent pin her.

As she waited for a break in action to inform her coach of what she felt like was an intentional sexual assault, a coach from an opposing team came up to her and told her something that would make the ordeal even worse.

Kallie’s opponent was a biological boy.

This happened in December. Kallie told her coach, who told her she would do something about it. Kallie's parents contacted the school to ask what they would do about it. Close to 2 months went by with nothing happening, until Kallie saw a story about girls from the rival school complaining that boys were making them uncomfortable in the girls' bathroom. One of the boys was identified as Kallie's opponent.

Kallie reached out to Kruse, and only the day after Kruse began asking questions did an investigation begin.

"The School Resource Officer informed me he was called by the school to investigate a report of sexual assault at a wrestling match. This incident allegedly happened during the match between the victim and a transgender student the victim was wrestling at the time. Last week, the School Resource Officer reviewed a video of the match, and he will be following up with the victim this week for further information. This is being investigated and is still active,” Pierce County Sheriff's Deputy Carly Cappeltto told unDivided in an email.

It's easy to jump to the conclusion that the alleged assault was being swept under the rug because the alleged assaulter was transgender. It's easy to jump to the conclusion because we've seen it happen multiple times. Most notable was Loudon County, Virginia, where a girl was allegedly raped by a trans student in the bathroom, yet the left and the media (but I repeat myself) believed the real villain was the girl's father for getting angry at it at a school board meeting.

In an update, Principal Jason Smith and Athletic Coordinator Peter Collins were each charged with failure to comply with Washington's mandatory reporting law. Though prosecutors aren't charging the trans wrestler, according to The Post Millennial

In a memorandum explaining that decision, prosecutors concluded they could not prove a charge of third-degree rape beyond a reasonable doubt because of Washington case law involving consent in athletic contests. Prosecutors acknowledged there was "no doubt" Keeler did not want penetration to occur but concluded they could not overcome a legal consent defense recognized in organized sports. The prosecutor also emphasized that the decision not to file charges was unrelated to the athlete's gender identity.

Keeler and her mother have a separate federal lawsuit filed against Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, the school superintendent, and the school district alleging that their policy of allowing boys who claim they're girls to wrestle girls who are girls led to the assault.
