Tom Cruise needs less than ten words to shut down reporter's silly Donald Trump question during "Mission: Impossible" press tour
It's a day that ends in "y" in the Two-thousand and Twenty-fifth year of our Trump, so of course, when a reporter has an opportunity to ask Tom Cruise a question about Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning, they make it Trumpy. Take notes, other celebrities. Cruise's response was perfection.
Reporters from any genre outside of politics think it's their job to ask about politics regardless of their genre.
They are more concerned with woke slacktivism and only have a marginal interest in the topic they are supposed to cover. My favorite example is a hockey reporter upset that the Calgary Flames didn't speak out about Jordan Peterson being booked in the same building where they play hockey.
But the worst? Entertainment reporters. They don't think there should even be any entertainment if it isn't being used to advance the left's agenda. That's why it helps if actors are as prepared.
The entertainment journalismer in question couldn't help but notice much of MI was shot outside of America. "Of course, we all are aware of the tariffs that President Trump has been imposing on overseas productions and films. So is this particular movie under that tariff?"
Cruise didn't take the bait.
We’d rather answer questions about the movie. Thank you.
How simple was that?
When an actor "gets in trouble" over entering the political arena, it's not usually because they wanted to. When they sit down to do an interview, sometimes they foolishly think the interview is about the movie they are there to be interviewed for. Then reporters start asking about "this political climate" and want analogies drawn, and the interviewee is caught off guard.
James Gunn handled the question well when discussing the new Superman film. Three-fourths of the new Fantastic Four cast did not.
Tom Cruise is the last of his kind. An actor who, when he makes movies, makes them for EVERYONE to see and does not feel that alienating a significant portion of his audience is a good idea. Other celebrities should take notes.
