Captain America a Libertarian Now?! Leftists Go Full Rage...
For some reason, there's is nothing leftists like to politicize more than comic books (see Marvel Studios’ Writer Tells ‘Whitewashing’ Protestors to Screw Off and Marvel Comics’ 21 Word Response to #SJWs is Perfect!). So it should come as no surprise that the dumbest review of Captain America: Civil War that you'll read comes from Salon.
Warning, this may container SPOILERS so put your big boy pants on...
Steve Rogers is an icon of liberal patriotism...in both the first movie and in "Captain America: Winter Soldier," we get Steve the liberal: Anti-racist, anti-sexist...
Yeah, no. First, Steve Rogers is not a "liberal patriot." Second, all we got in the first movie was a popcorn flick to set up other movies, and the closest the second movie was to "political" was the liberty vs security debate we've been having since the late 1700's. Third, what in tesseract is a "liberal patriot"? I'm totally lost on that. Anyway...
“Captain America: Civil War,” decided that, for no reason whatsoever, Steve is now a guy who believes it’s cool to belong to a secretive paramilitary that rejects oversight and accountability to the public.
Actually, what we got was a Captain America who knew an overly regulated Avengers that had to answer to a centralized government would be ineffective at doing their job. You know, saving the world. When aliens attack, Captain America doesn't have time for a meeting. He doesn't have time for a hearing. He doesn't have time to answer to a committee and lay out a ten point plan as to how he shall defeat the bad guys. Complete with an exit strategy.
Basically, here's her complaint...
Then there's this...
But while it was a good movie, it would have been so much better if they’d just cut all that stuff about the Sokovia Accords, which was unnecessary, muddled and made Steve Rogers look like the bad guy for no reason whatsoever.
THAT WAS THE WHOLE POINT OF THE MOVIE! Without getting into details, THAT'S the thing that set off the civil war between the heroes. No Sokovia Accord. No Civil War. No freaking movie. At least try and know what you're talking about. Otherwise I have to go through all the trouble of pointing out what a flipping moron you are for not understanding basic plot points. Which is fun, sure. But you know, I too have worlds to save!
I mean, if we really want to politicize the Avengers, let's do it right...
