I always recoil when I read that a celebrity is considering a run for elected office. They almost always claim this while they have something to promote. Last month, there were tons of headlines about The Rock running for president. A few paragraphs in, "Oh, he was also promoting a new show on NBC." As much as I would love to smell what fiscal policies The Rock is cooking, c'mon now. Another name that regularly gets thrown around as running for office is Mathew McConaughey.

The actor appeared on The Balanced Voice, a Houston podcast, where the idea of him running for governor came up. The Hill, which at one point was supposed to cover Capitol Hill (hence the name), ran with the headline "McConaughey says he's seriously considering Texas governor run." Wow! He must be serious! Let's hear him discuss it. Or, more actually, listen to see if you catch him "discussing" it.

Really? That's it?

Look, I like Matthew McConaughey a lot. He's one of the few slightly to the right of Karl Marx celebrities that we have. The reason why I timecoded the video where I did was because I was picking up a lot of what he was laying down. He's also the same guy who went to an anti-gun rally without knowing what an anti-gun rally is. Let's maybe slow our rolls a bit encouraging him to be governor. A-list actor who says conservative-adjacent things? Great! Future candidate as a statewide executive? Everyone might want to think that through.

Also, how do you interview someone who says running for governor is "a true consideration" and NOT follow up on it? That's interviewing 101.
