We see enough "educators" not only encouraging anti-ICE protests but also leading them and signing students out of school behind parents' backs, so it's refreshing to see at least one teacher who thinks kids should be in school during the school day. And it's not even that he stopped them. But simply letting kids know that if they choose to protest, they face consequences for leaving class without permission is notable when dealing with public schools.
I don't want to link directly to the girl's TikTok because it's the only video she's posted. I'm not even sure how anonymous engagement bait Twitter found the video on such an insignificant account. I guess people just troll the hashtags. Hey, get it how you live.
In doing my diligence and checking the source material, I noticed the responses to the video, 98.6% positive, fell into two categories.
"I wonder who he voted for."
"Guess what half time show he watched.
Anytime I use internet vernacular out loud, I want to punch myself in the face, which includes calling something [solve for x]-coded. But think about this. If you are a public school teacher who doesn't support indoctrinating students and thinks they should be in class during the school day, that now makes you MAGA-coded. He's a teacher in, I think, California. There is an above-average chance he voted for Kamala. Yet because he wasn't handing out signs that had "fascist AmeriKKKa" misspelled, that means he enjoys Kid Rock songs.
Not being a leftist douchelord makes you "MAGA-coded," and this is according to the people who call things x-coded unironically.
"He’s violating your First Amendment rights."
"Btw they are legally required to let you protest it’s a right they also have to excuse you from school."
Are they legally required to excuse you if you are joining a pro-ICE counter-protest? Are they legally required to excuse you from school because you forgot to study for a test, so you write "F*ck ICE" on a piece of cardboard and say you're protesting? That's not how it works.
He acknowledges they have a right to protest and speak out on this super serious issue, which they are all super serious and well-informed about as they wave a flag from a foreign country. However, it's still against the rules and possibly the law (depending on local ordinances) to leave school grounds without permission during the school day. Informing students about consequences does not violate the First Amendment. If the kids paid more attention in school, they might know that.
As this clip goes more viral, I'm curious to see what happens to the teacher. Public school employees who aren't explicitly anti-ICE haven't be fairing well.
