BREAKING: Las Vegas Shooting Kills 50, Leaves 400 Injured...
Waking up to the horrific news of a shooting near the Mandalay Bay Casino. Early reports have over 20 killed, with over 100 injured (note, LVMPD have since increased the number to over 50 killed and over 200 injured).
A gunman firing from a Las Vegas hotel rained a rapid-fire barrage on a huge outdoor concert festival on Sunday night, sending thousands of people fleeing until SWAT units found and killed him. More than 20 victims died, and more than 100 others were wounded, officials said.Online video of the attack outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino showed the country singer Jason Aldean performing outside at the Route 91 Harvest Festival, a three-day country music event, interrupted by the sound of automatic gunfire. The music stopped, and concertgoers ducked for cover. “Get down,” one shouted. “Stay down,” screamed another.
Update Oct 2. 10am EST From FoxNews:
A gunman turned a Las Vegas concert into a killing field Sunday night, murdering at least 50 people and injuring more than 400 others in the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.
The suspect, who died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, a resident of Mesquite, Nevada. Police initially sought a woman believed to be Paddock's roommate, Marilou Danley, as a "person of interest." Detectives later made contact with her, and "do not believe she is involved with the shooting on The Strip."
We now know the name of the gunman as Stephen Paddock.
Details are still sketchy, and once people wake up we're going to rapidly enter the point where everyone assigns motive and tries to politicize it. My advice is to wait until the police give their first press conference with everything they know, and just pray for the victims and their families until then.
