A Sephora review has gone viral after a woman claimed that she was attracting spiders after using Sol De Janiero’s new Delícia Drench Body Butter, alleging that one of the ingredients in the product was like “kryptonite” to the eight-legged creature.

According to Fox Business:

“A not-so-itsy-bitsy spider could be attracted to your moisturizer, some people claim.

In a viral review on the beauty retailer’s website for Sol De Janiero’s new Delícia Drench Body Butter, a Sephora customer reported spotting several wolf spiders after using the product.

"If you're scared of wolf spiders — watch out for these lotions, lol. I wanted to love them sooo bad, but one of the ingredients is like kryptonite to wolf spiders!" the customer wrote.

"When I put it on, instantly one will come out. Normally I'll see one every, like, 3 years, used this and it was every day."

The reviewer claimed he or she hadn’t seen a spider since discontinuing use of the product.

The claim made its way to Reddit — where one user, @marchingkoala, suggested that two chemicals sometimes found in skincare products, farnesyl acetate and hexadecyl acetate, could cause the arachnid attraction.

The review and Reddit thread have since gone viral on social media, with TikTok and X users spreading what’s since been identified as a rumor.”

Both Sol de Janeiro and Sephora have denied the allegations. The original review that started the rumors has since been taken down. But this is just all too funny.

But the most ironic part about that review is that kryptonite is actually supposed to make its targets weak. So if it were kryptonite to spiders, then they would be deterring spiders and not attracting them. Right?

The thing is, Sephora's website is saturated with fake reviews. It is bad and is way worse than Amazon, according to my observations and experiences. But I don't think these are fake. I think they are the real deal.

Although the reviewer does not know what "kryptonite" is, I think we all get what she is trying to say.

The hypothesis is that when you combine the ingredients farnesyl acetate with hexadecyl acetate in the correct dosage, you end up attracting male spiders because that specific chemical analysis is abducent in female spiders. Which makes total sense if you think about it. If you are wearing a scent that the bug likes, then why wouldn't it come looking for its lady friend?

Have you ever seen a wolf spider? Those things are no joke. They are monster spiders. Why would this brand do this to people? It really makes you wonder what their priorities are....

Fortunately, the critter is harmless. So if you like the scent, go out and get the body butter. Otherwise, I suggest the Sol de Janeiro Brazilian Bum Bum Cream because at least that one has never been accused of containing spider pheromones.
