There are many reasons as to why open borders are evil and anti-Biblical. This is why it is both bizarre and inappropriate for Pope Leo to demand Western countries take on the problems of the Third World, especially considering no one asked him. Nonetheless, according to Pope Leo, “all of us are migrants.” And while you think of these people as foreigners today, they could very well be your neighbor tomorrow.

On Friday Leo called on leaders to do more to welcome and integrate migrants, warning that many face a “silent shipwreck” after they arrive, finding themselves “left alone in a city, without a voice, without ties, work or a sense of security, and susceptible to those who take advantage of vulnerability”.

Many of these countries are already struggling to help people there. What makes him believe it is more compassionate to overload the system, when it continues to destroy these once-great nations? That is neither here nor there, because at the very core, open borders are immoral, to say the very least.

His call to protect the rights of migrants has clashed with the rhetoric espoused by many politicians, particularly from far-right and conservative parties, who have taken a hard line on migrants even as they profess to hold Christian values.

On Friday he also told people smugglers – who often charge thousands of euros a person to ferry people across borders, forcing people later into prostitution or other forms of black market labour by withholding their documents – that they would face God’s wrath for taking advantage of desperation.

As he implied, you cannot have open borders without humans being trafficked. And while it is nice he has condemned these barbaric and evil practices, that does nothing to change the reality of the situation. The more migration you have coming from these third-world countries, the more people are trafficked. It is not possible to have such a system while also preventing these crimes. He can pretend all he wants, but open borders are far from compassionate.

This, combined with the fact that God supports separate nation-states, tells you all you need to know. Too many people are harmed when migration is unvetted. And the fact that this is somehow controversial is deeply damaging. Claiming open borders is morally superior to national security is a lie that has no place in a sane society. And after all the evidence, and the attempted beheading this week, you would think the left has finally gotten a hint. Clearly, not, though, as they fully intend to double down on their fantasy world. What a disgrace.
