There’s nothing more irritating than a man who knows nothing about the Bible lecturing Christians as if he knows a thing or two about a thing or two. Because while I know that you know that the reason the government shut down was because the Dems refused to pass the clean CR, California Gov. Gavin Newsom also knows that. This is why it’s bizarre, yet unsurprising, that he’s blaming the POTUS and VP for allegedly keeping the government closed. Nonetheless, he has decided to claim that food stamps are "central to advancing God's will." And if that were true, why is it not true?
According to the Daily Beast:
The California governor asked how the vice president could “square the circle” of being Catholic while resisting all efforts to restore Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, reminding the Vance that feeding the poor is “fundamental to advancing God’s will.”
All that comes to mind when I read that is 2 Thessalonians 3:10, “Whoever will not work should not be allowed to eat.” And while I am not saying Christians shouldn't help those less fortunate, it’s pretty clear Newsom has no clue what he’s talking about.
The problem with Food Stamps is not that it helps those in need; it’s that it incentivizes people not to work, and they often end up relying on the government for years. But I digress.
Speaking to Jake Tapper on State of the Union Sunday, lifelong Irish Catholic Newsom, 58, lectured on Vance, 41, on the foundational lessons of their shared faith, suggesting that the latter’s religion and actions didn’t quite add up.
“I mean, Old Testament, New Testament,” Newsom said. “What‘s the fundamental thing that connects every—I mean, from John to Matthew to Proverbs? It‘s this notion of hunger, feeding the poor, the sick, the tired, this... it‘s not an option, it‘s central to advancing God‘s will.”
Great. I am glad everyone agrees that we ought to help those less fortunate, but it begs the question: Why is he not calling out his leftist colleagues? That may or may not have to do with the fact that he’s intentionally misleading voters to point the finger at Republicans when anyone with a fraction of a brain knows exactly who's to blame. But what else is new?
